  Visiting Animal Program:
Introductory Program Coordinator Course

    A learning opportunity for facility staff members and volunteers responsible for implementing and coordinating visiting animal programs.  This comprehensive one day workshop is designed to provide information and tools to successfully develop and maintain a visiting animal program that makes a difference in your facility and in the lives of the people who reside, visit, or work there.  Topics introduced include: how to determine a facility’s needs; developing and implementing effective policies and procedures; setting animal criteria and conducting animal selection; managing volunteers; and monitoring programs for ongoing quality. 8 contact hours. Delta Society® Pet Partners®
Team Training Course

Pet Partners are person-animal teams who have received training on how to visit people in hospitals, nursing homes, schools, etc.  Pet Partners teams have passed tests that show they can work well together in visiting animal programs.   Typically, this is a one-day workshop, taught by a licensed Delta Society Pet Partners Workshop Instructor, and introduces handlers to animal selection, screening and visiting.  Pet Partners text included.  Do NOT bring animals; minimum handler age is 10 years old.  (This course is also available in a home-study version).  Successful completion of the Team Training Course in required to become registered with Delta Society Pet Partners program.

Delta Society® Pet Partners®
Team Evaluation:  Skills & Aptitude Tests

The Team Evaluation is a 30-minute individual screening of person-animal teams by licensed Delta Society Pet Partners Animal Evaluators.  Teams (Animals AND Handlers) are evaluated for skills and aptitude for visiting animal programs.  A passing score is required for registration with Delta Society Pet Partners.  Species eligible for screenings include any domesticated animal (e.g. dog, cat, rabbit, birds) -- Please, NO reptiles or ferrets!   BRING:  animal, proof of rabies inoculation, proof of state license (when required), grooming tool and a bath towel.  Animal must be at least one (1) year old (inquire for minimum age of "pocket pets).

  Animal Assisted THERAPY Techniques:  Animal & Handler Skills Workshop

    This 1/2 day workshop will teach how your pet can assist health and education professionals to assist others toward their physical, cognitive and social goals.  Learn about Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT) and the animal skills needed; then train with your animal on safe animal handling practices and advanced AAT session skills.   Animals currently registered with Delta Society Pet Partners only.  BRING animal.

  Animal Assisted ACTIVITIES Techniques:  BASIC Visit Skills Workshop

    You and your pet have just become nationally registered, now what?   This 1/2 day workshop will give you the information to confidently begin volunteering in a visiting animal program.  Learn handling techniques that minimize risk to your pet and to the clients; then practice the most commonly encountered facility scenarios.  Animals currently registered with Delta Society Pet Partners and/or Therapy Dogs International, Inc. only.  BRING animal.
